CHAPTER TWENTY ONE
The economy of Ruth’s business improved. She was no longer struggling to make ends meet. Clients were paying their dues on time and new work was coming in. Ruth attributed this turn around to God’s work in her life. She was still praying every morning and she had come to believe that indeed there is power in prayer. She felt connected to God and she believed that
Psalm 127:2 It is useless to work so hard for a living, getting up early and going to bed late. For the Lord provides for those he loves, while they are asleep.
She was, however, falling short on one area of her walk with God and that was reading the Bible. She found herself in no mood for that. She could not understand why she felt that way considering that God’s Word was medicine for her mind. The Bible was prominently placed on her bedside table and she even had an app on her phone that offered a wide variety of Bible reading plans that she could choose from.
What got Ruth to start reading her Bible was insomnia. She would doze off and sleep for a few hours and then in the middle of the night, she would find herself wide awake. She would then toss and turn and eventually sleep again in small bits, then when she woke up in
Then one day, after her morning prayer, it dawned on her that reading the Bible did have an effect on her mind and her not reading it also had an effect. She wondered whether the insomnia could be a result of her not feeding her mind with the Word of God which is alive and active and which gives peace and rest. As soon as that thought entered her mind, she sat down, opened the book of Isaiah and read the first chapter. At that point, she strongly believed that reading the Bible would give her sweet sleep.
From that day. Ruth read her Bible daily and her sleep pattern improved. She came to realize that walking with God is no easy task, one that requires a minimum of reading the Bible, prayer, tithing, fasting occasionally and fellowship with other Christians. Once she embraced the Bible reading, Ruth found that she was doing all she could think of to draw her closer to God. This made her happy and she felt confident that her life would only get better.
Proverbs 3:24 – When you lie down, you will not be afraid; yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.
When Ruth started reading her Bible daily, she noticed that her decision making was easier. She was able to think through matters quickly and decide on what to do. At work she revised the working systems to ensure that her staff were working efficiently. Reading the Bible was opening up her mind and causing her to receive insights and ideas from Heaven.
On the issue of Donald, she was alright being friends but Donald did not want to just be friends.
So she decided that she would put him on hold and avoid befriending him as that might lead him on. She told herself that the soulmate God created for her would be someone she was attracted to and someone who she would like to spend the rest of her life with. She was not getting any younger but she preferred to be on her own than to be with someone who she was not sure of.
