“I am chosen, not forsaken, I am who you say I am……”
Hillsong Music
Recently, I have found myself singing this song from Hillsong music over and over again. Something
I can’t even begin to understand why God chose me because I feel unqualified. Looking at myself, surely there were and still are more qualified people than I. Yet, He chose me!
Why Did God Choose Me?
John 15:16a “You did not choose me but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear
fruit – fruit that will last.”
Choose according to the dictionary means “ to decide which you want from a number of people or things.”
Appoint means “to choose someone to do a particular job or have a particular position.”
- God decided He wanted me– God created the heavens and the earth (Gen 1:1) and everything else that exists. Right from the beginning God chose man to be made in His own image (Gen 1:27). He would have chosen anything else out the whole creation, but most importantly, He chose man. How awesome to know that I was chosen right from the commencement of life.
- God saw potential in me – Whatever potential God saw in Adam and Eve was nothing they knew about. Though they fell into sin, God still maintained His position. God sees abilities in my life that I have no idea of. It takes His Word and His Holy Spirit to open me up to the truth that He has spoken about me. God looks around and sees the potential I carry within and appoints me to use it where He leads.
One of God’s choices to learn from
Exodus 31:1-6 “Then the Lord said to Moses, see I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts – to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood and to engage in all kinds of craftsmanship. Moreover, I have appointed Ohioan son of Ahisamach of the tribe of Dan to help him. Also I have given skill to all the craftsmen to make everything I have commanded you:”
In the above verses, God chooses and appoints two unskilled men. Most importantly, He fills them with His Holy Spirit and gives them specific skills because He has a task for them. How awesome!
God prepares special people for His special tasks ahead. The same applies to me; God knows the specific task He wants me to carry out and that is why He chose me. He does not choose me and leave me to figure out what the task is or how to carry it out, No! He allows me to have communion with His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will then reveal to me the skills and expertise I have been given to do the task excellently. I can’t afford to fail Him!
My daily Life as God’s chosen
I, therefore do not have a reason to miss out on any appointment from my Father. It doesn’t matter how much external forces try to discourage me, I will stand on the assurance that I am chosen and appointed for such a time as this!
